The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the child-centered play therapy was an effective method to treat a child suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) and to analyze play therapy based on mainly the play themes suggested by Ray(2010). Twenty sessions of the child-centered play therapy were carried out with a boy aged six in total who had experienced a car accident with his younger brother, subjects who were quite possibly exhibiting symptoms of PTSD. The change in play themes shown during the sessions can be divided into three stages. Helplessness, Chaos, Anxiety, Hopelessness in the early phase(1-4), Relationship, Grief, Reparation, Protection, Nurturing, Mastery, control in the mid phase(5-16), Self-sufficiency, Resiliency, and Integration in the later phase(17-20). This study is significant because it analyzes the curative power of client-centered therapy approach on a child experiencing PTSD using play themes.
